Can I Remove Very Fine Sand with a Lakos Sandmaster?

Hello,

Do you think 60 mesh is the proper size screen for fine silica sand? In your experience, how effective have the Sandmaster sediment trappers been for removing fine sand? Should I re-install one of my whole-house filters downstream of the sediment trapper, or is that overkill?

Thanks,

Chad L.

Chlorine Feed or Air Charger Iron Filter?

Hello,

I would like to size a MangOX filter but need to know if the system needs an air charger.

Some info about my system:

7.5 GPM flow rate
7.5 pH
4 users

I have an upstream chlorinator and dwell tank (15 ppm free chlorine on input, much less but unknown at output).  I have a softener downstream that cannot cope with the iron.  When is an air charger justified?

Thanks,
Peter W.

Mainly Concerned with Removing Iron and Manganese

Hello,

Here is the state lab report for my well:

  • Calcium (Carbonate) 180 mg/L
  • Magnesium, Total 6.2 mg/L
  • Sodium, Total 190 mg/L
  • Alkalinity, Total 140 mg/L
  • Chloride 5.0 mg/L
  • Sulfate 550 mg/L
  • Corrosivity-Langlier 0.54

This is a new house with a newly-drilled well, so I suspect that the coliform will be taken care of with a couple of chlorine shock treatments. I am mainly concerned with removing iron and manganese, softening the water, and probably under-kitchen-sink RO for drinking water. Your thoughts on best system components?

Thanks,

Geoff K.

What Can I Use to Treat Acid Water, Iron, AND Sediment?

Hi,

I am trying to figure out what combination of products I would need to fix the water coming of my parent's well. They recently asked me to test the water since it had eaten through the well pump and was leaving blue lines in one of the bathtubs. Here are the problems:

  • a lot of fine granite sand, mud, and some small pebbles
  • Total Alkalinity somewhere between 80 & 160 ppm
  • PH between 6 & 6.5
  • Total Hardness somewhere between 120 & 250 ppm
  • Iron between .3 & 1 ppm
  • Copper around 1.3 ppm
  • TDS around 199 mg/L at about 68 degrees F
I used the [Langelier Saturation Index] formula and came up with: LSI -1.4 & PHs 7.4

Are there any systems or combination of products that could handle all these issues? A big draw on the well that is unusual is that they put in a geothermal unit. With as expensive as it is to fix, I really want to find them a solution that will protect the geothermal as well as the normal appliances in the house.

Thanks,

Amelia M.
