Hydrogen Peroxide Water Treatment

Dear sir,

My well water smells and is high in tannin and iron. I have had it tested and I was told I also have iron bacteria.  I am interested in using hydrogen peroxide, can you make a recommendation?

Dear Jane,
Hydrogen peroxide (“H2O2”) is a very powerful oxidizing agent, much more powerful than aeration, chlorine or potassium permanganate. Hydrogen peroxide decomposes into oxygen and water leaving no trace of chemical residues. For problem well water containing iron, iron bacteria, manganese and/or “rotten-egg” sulfur odor “H2S” (hydrogen sulfide gas) hydrogen peroxide systems are an excellent choice.

Some further testing will be done to determine if hydrogen peroxide will oxidize the tannin, but depending on the type and concentration of your tannins, peroxide combined with a carbon filter can be very effective.  Please send us a liter of your water for testing at no charge.

When peroxide is added to water a large amount of dissolved oxygen is released and a powerful oxidizing effect occurs. Coliform and iron bacteria are killed, and tannins are oxidized. This type of iron filter system handles the absolute worst type of water reliably and effectively.

Peroxide oxidizes the iron, manganese and sulfur odors to a solid form that the catalytic carbon can remove. For many applications no contact tank is required, and the hydrogen peroxide is effectively removed by the catalytic carbon media.

This system also provides disinfection, giving you bacteria free water.  The hydrogen peroxide would then feed into a contact tank to provide enough time for the solution to react with the sulfur, iron and bacteria in the water, cleaning it up for good.  Finally, the water would pass through a carbon backwash filter to remove the peroxide and remaining VOCs, tastes and odors.
