How To Use Hydrogen Peroxide To Remove Well Water Odors

Hello -  I have my own water well and our big problem is odor and sediment. We have very smelly well water. It smells like rotten-eggs and has a lot of sediment in it.  We also have had some problems with coliform bacteria over the years, although we do shock the well with bleach sometimes to try to kill it.
My wife is opposed to using a chlorination system or having any chlorine in the water, and a neighbor suggested hydrogen peroxide.  Can you tell me how I can use peroxide to solve my stinky water problem?

Bill

Dear Bill,

For problem well water containing “rotten-egg” sulfur odor “H2S” (hydrogen sulfide gas) and coliform bacteria, hydrogen peroxide systems are an excellent choice. Hydrogen peroxide (“H2O2”) is a powerful oxidizing agent, much more powerful than aeration, chlorine or potassium permanganate. Hydrogen peroxide decomposes into oxygen and water leaving no trace of chemical residues.

Peroxide in injected and allowed to flow through a small contact tank under pressure.  After the contact tank, a catalytic carbon filter removes sediment, and any trace of peroxide and odor.  The result is clean, odor-free, water throughout the home.

In this application the metering pump would be wired to come on with the well, and then whenever energized a dilution of peroxide would be injected to oxidize odors for filtration by Centaur Carbon filter.   After the carbon filter, a sediment backwash filter is recommended to filter the water and remove sediment and turbidity.

The high purity natural mined Zeolite ChemSorb media filters and removes sediment down to 5 microns.  Unlike filter cartridges that quickly become clogged and require frequent changes, the Backwash Sediment Filter automatically backwashes the sediment restoring water pressure. The media is easily changed and lasts for about 5 years.

Centaur Carbon 7000 Backwash, 2.0 cubic foot 7000 115 Volt:

All the filter media you need for the system is included. Excellent for use in de-chlorinating water, removing chloramines, and removing many tastes and odors.  Very effective catalytic carbon for removing impurities from water and suitable for a home with up to 3 ½ bathrooms.

Much longer life and higher flow rates than standard carbon. Unlike carbon cartridges which can trap sediment and dirt causing pressure drop these systems automatically backwash out trapped sediment alleviating pressure drop.
