Combat High Iron Levels and Low pH

Hello Fred,

Thank you very much for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:

thanks in advance.....Fred”

Based on the analysis, the main issues with the water are the high levels of iron as well as the low pH.  Low pH can cause corrosion problems with copper piping, which can lead to leaching of copper into drinking water and onto surfaces, but more importantly can cause leaks on pipes.  Correcting the pH up to neutral 7.0 is also important in removing iron from well water. The iron can also contribute to the discoloration you reported.

An effective method for taking care of the low pH is with the use of a calcite neutralizer.  This system uses calcite (crushed limestone) which dissolves into the water and counteract the corrosive properties of acidic water.  Once the pH has been raised, I would recommend using a heavy-duty Pro-Ox iron filter, which would be able to remove high levels of iron and manganese without the use of chemicals.  These two systems in line will be able to provide you with clear, non-staining and non-corrosive water.  Please see more information on the equipment below:

Low pH:  In addition to corroding your copper pipes, a low pH also interferes with proper iron oxidation and removal.  For the majority of iron removal medias on the market, iron and manganese can’t really be taken out very well with a low pH.  To raise your low pH, a calcite Neutralizer Filter would neutralize the pH and eliminate the corrosive effects of the water.  Many customers with this type of water used to have blue-green stains from copper pipe corrosion and after installing the neutralizer see their blue stains disappear within a few weeks.  The Neutralizer filter comes with everything you need including necessary calcite media and simple instructions. Any plumber or person familiar with basic plumbing can install them.

Excellent Warranty: 5 years on the control valve & 10 years on the mineral tank.Iron:  We believe the best way to remove high levels of iron, as well as eliminate a buildup of iron bacteria, is our backwashing Pro-OX iron filter.  The Pro-OX iron filter is definitely our best system for oxidizing and filtering out manganese and iron.  It lasts a long time- usually around 6 to 8 years before needing to be replaced, and requires no maintenance.
