How To Set Up Proportional Feed Chlorinator System

Sir,

We have a truck stop and truck wash supplied by well water.  Recently our bacteria tests have failed and the county wants us to install a chlorinator.  The only problem is, we cannot install it near the well, we must install it as the water flows into our

building due to space constraints.  Since our flow varies from a few gallons per minute up to 30 gallons per minute, what type of chlorinator do we need?  Can we use a flow switch or do we need a proportional type chlorinator?  Our water pressure is 70 to 80 PSI.

John,
Yes you should use a proportional feed type chlorinator.  Since your water pressure is less than 100 PSI, we recommend using the Stenner proportional feed system with PCM control.  See the attached diagram.   Since the water flow is a few GPM up to 30 GPM this system can keep up and maintain a residual.  We also recommend a 200 gallon contact tank to get proper contact time with the chlorine.

Metering Pump & Tank: 45MHP-10 Stenner Pump with 15 gallon heavy-duty polyethylene solution tank

Pump output 0.5 to 10.0 gallons per day (1.9 to 37.9 liters per day); voltage 115 or 220V; 60 Hz. This is a complete system that comes with everything you need: solution tank; metering pump; tubing; fittings; and injection check valve.

The convenient tank has a top flat surface where you can easily mount the pump with screws or Velcro. The system is optimized for chlorine injection. An easy to understand manual allows for a quick set-up. The Stenner pump is the best chlorine pump for small chlorination applications such as homes, ranches and farms because it is self-priming, reliable and very low maintenance.  This small chlorine pump system is easy to install by anyone familiar with basic plumbing and very easy to maintain yourself.

Many smaller cheaper metering pumps will lose their prime easily and quickly require high maintenance unlike the Stenner professional grade metering pump. The Stenner pump system is designed to last for many years with a minimum of maintenance.

There is also the option with going with a 35 gallon solution tank (dimensions: 18” diameter x 33” height), which uses the same pump and features same construction material for tank as the above-mentioned system:
