Clearing Cloudy Water and Sulfur Odor

Hello John,

Thank you for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:
“Water is slightly cloudy in a glass. Toilet has light brown staining at water line and light brown sediment in tank.  Sulfur odor mostly in hot water.  Our main concern is the cloudiness of the tap water.”

Thank you for submitting that information and your water chemistry.  I’ve looked it over, and the problems appear to be high iron and trace amounts of manganese.  I don’t know if you were looking for any recommendations on treating this water or not, but just in case, I would recommend installing an oxidizing iron filter.

Iron and Manganese:  We believe the best way to remove high levels of iron is our backwashing Pro-OX iron filter.  The Pro-OX iron filter is definitely our best system for oxidizing and filtering out manganese and iron.  It lasts a long time- usually around 6 to 8 years before needing to be replaced, and requires no maintenance.

For any additional sediment and cloudiness that might linger in the water, we would recommend 5-micron filtration afterwards with a post cartridge assembly.

Pro-Ox Iron Filter 5900 Series, 1.5 cu. Ft, 115 Volt:

Pro-OX Iron Filter 5900 Series includes pipe connectors; by-pass valve; 1.5 cubic feet of Pro-OX Manganese Dioxide NSF Certified filter media; 10 x 54 inch filter tank; 5900 automatic backwash control valve. Uses the Enpress tank with Vortech distributor which allows the Pro-OX media to be backwashed at lower flow rates with less water, saving water and energy.

Dimensions: 10” diameter x 50” height with valve

Excellent Warranty: 5 years on the control valve & 10 years on the mineral tank.

Post-filter:  Whole-House Big Blue 50 / 5 Micron filter, 10” x 4.5

Complete Big Blue Filter Assembly, 1” inlet and can filter at up to 10 gallons per minute maximum flow rate.  Excellent filter for cleaning and polishing all water for your home.

Comes with wall mounting bracket, filter wrench, one 50/5  micron cartridge, and filter assembly.

Sulfur Smell in the Just Hot Water
