How to Treat Hard, Rusty, Acidic Water With Sulfur Odors

Seltzer flavor, high calcium, clothes get rust stains when used. Water dries and leaves white rings. Water has sulfur smell. want to be able to drink water, plants turn yellow after watering. Plants have survived but could do better. Would like to use water for animals, horse and chickens.
Will the system be under warranty if installed in Canada.

Thanks for contacting us. Regarding your question for information:


The best and probably only way to treat this water is to use a pre-treatment to remove the sulfur smell, iron, sediment and hardness, then run the water through a Reverse Osmosis system and fill a small storage tank with purified water. For the pre-treatment, one could use either chlorine or peroxide or aeration, but we find chlorine works best and is the cheapest.

As a final stage after the RO system before the storage tank, the water would flow through a bed of crushed marble, (calcium carbonate) which will add back in a small amount of hardness. The result is excellent water throughout the home and for the animals.
