Dear sir,
See attached water test report. We have “2 homes with
5 Bathrooms total. Our well water is acidic (pH 5.5) but we also have high levels of hardness. We want to protect fittings from acid 1st and foremost. Would like to drink water if reasonable. What do you suggest? Our well pump can pump about 7 gallons per minute.

Hello Steve,
Thank you for contacting us through our website and including your water analysis.
For such a low pH in conjunction with very high hardness, we would always recommend treatment with soda ash injection. A backwashing calcite type of neutralizer generally can’t raise the pH up very well when hardness is already very high, and besides- a neutralizer system works by increasing the hardness a great deal, and you can’t really afford to raise it.
So, a very efficient way of addressing this pH issue is using a soda ash injection system, which would use a metering pump. Soda ash is made of sodium carbonate, which reacts with the dissolved acidity in your water to bring up the pH and neutralize its corrosive qualities. This is a good alternative to a calcite (crushed limestone) neutralizer which raises hardness considerably- soda ash will not raise your hardness.
For addressing high hardness, I would suggest one of our efficient CWS Plus softening systems. The CWS Digital Plus Series professional grade softeners come with everything you need (except salt which can be purchased from most hardware or grocery stores) including easy installation instructions. Any plumber or person familiar with basic plumbing can install them. Below I’m showing information on the 80K size softener, which works well considering your hardness is so high and it’s multiple homes.
Also, for treatment of bacteria, Ultraviolet sterilizers work by exposing the cell walls of an organism to intense UV light which disrupts the genetic material and prevents the organism from reproducing. UV effectively destroys bacteria and viruses but is limited by the clarity of the water. UV only works on water that is clear and has a high UV transmission rate.
I’ve also included information on an under-sink reverse osmosis system to take out the high TDS and improve quality for drinking water.
