How To Replace Culligan Air Compressor Iron Filter System

Hello,

I'm replacing a 20 yr old Culligan Iron Tank compressor air injected.  Probably will replace old softener but would rather not use one. Know I need to also raise the ph with neutralizer.  We notice the pre-filter cartridge turns black quickly.  Our average daily usage is about 150 gallons of water.  Water has metallic taste without water softener in service.

Thank you,

Jon P.

Jon,

We recommend replacing your Culligan with our Air Charger Iron Filter 2510-AIO system.  This system will effectively remove up to 7 ppm of iron and up to 7 ppm of hydrogen sulfide from your water, and does not require an air compressor.  Instead, the iron filter simply draws in air when it backwashes and keeps a pocket of air on top of the media to ensure that your water is always aerated.  This is important because Birm and MangOX media require the presence of dissolved oxygen to oxidize iron particles before filtration

Air Charger 2510 with
Fleck 2510 Control Head
Because the Fleck 2510-SXT air injection control head automatically backwashes the system daily and performs the entire oxidation process inside one tank, you'll save money on maintenance costs and experience less down time than you would with other systems.

Calcite Neutralizer
with Top-Fill Plug
For the neutralizer, we recommend you use a calcite neutralizer 7000-sxt.  This system will neutralize water of ph 6.0 - 6.9 by dissolving calcite (calcium carbonate) into the water as it flows through the filter.  It comes with everything you need including calcite and Corosex media and simple installation instructions, and can be installed by any person familiar with basic plumbing.

Unlike older style neutralizers, this neutralizer contains an advanced internal screen which eliminates the need for a gravel base and reduces the amount of water used for backwashing by 30%.  And since you'll only need to backwash once a week for about 8 to 10 minutes, you'll be saving money on water and energy costs for years.

Furthermore, this automatically backwashing neutralizer requires virtually no maintenance except for the addition of new calcite media (usually around 25 - 50 lbs) approximately once a year, and this too is made very simple by the top-fill plug and easy-to-use bypass valve (pictured above).

You mentioned that you may not necessarily continue using a water softener, but if you do decide to replace yours, we recommend a softener 7000-SXT.  This system uses a precise electronic meter to measure water usage and regenerate the softening media accordingly, saving you salt, water, and money.  Because the system keeps time electronically and runs the drive motor only during regeneration, you'll also save energy and enjoy soft water from your system for significantly longer than you would using a softener with a standard timer motor.

See the diagram below for an illustration of how these systems can best be installed (but note that it depicts a MangOX iron filter where your Air Charger iron filter would be installed):

We think that these systems will work really well for your application.  We hope you find this information useful, and that you'll keep us up to date on the progress of your whole house water treatment system.  You can send any further questions, comments, pictures, or testimonials to support@cleanwaterstore.com or to our Facebook page.  Thanks for the letter!
