Sediment and Bacterial Filter

Hello Kimberly,

Thank you for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:

I have sediment in my water coming thru my pipes and I need a bacterial filter as well. What do you suggest? Do you have a Bacterial Light disinfection filter and sediment filter all in one”

We don’t offer one single system that combines both, instead, we would recommend a sediment filter followed by a separate Ultraviolet Sterilizer system.  There are a couple of really good reasons to do it this way though.

For one thing, it is way, way easier to service and maintain a filter and UV sterilizer if they’re separate units.  A filter cartridge needs to be changed out from time to time (usually around 6 months, though it depends), and a UV light lamp needs to be exchanged once per year.  When it comes time to do this, it’s good to have some clearance space and room to remove the lamp from the UV chamber.  If you don’t have enough room, it can be messy and even potentially cause the lamp to break.

For another thing, there are a few designs out there (like the Sterilight HOME system) that combine a UV lamp and a cartridge filter into one assembly where they are side by side with one mounting bracket, but usually the problem is that the sizes are completely wrong- in order for them to set side by side and fit together, a lot of times the UV light ends up being too short, so it can only handle a flow rate that’s a fraction of what the filter cartridge can handle, and that doesn’t make much sense.

So, we recommend the two systems below, installed close together but not too close:

Whole-House Big Blue 50/5 Micron filter, 20” x 4.5

Complete Big Blue Filter Assembly, 1” inlet and up to 20 gallons per minute maximum flow rate.  Excellent filter for cleaning and polishing all water for your home.  For prefiltration, you can use these two Big Blue 20” filters in parallel.

Comes with wall mounting bracket, filter wrench, one 5 micron cartridge, and filter assembly.

Kill bacteria and viruses without the use of chlorine or other chemicals! 15 gallons per minute maximum flow rate recommended.  Inlet and outlet is 1 inch NPT. Heavy-duty 304 stainless steel UV is suitable for water pressures up to 100 PSI.  Two end caps make it easy to access the lamp for changing from either end; not one end like some UV sterilizers. Convenient external ballast and power supply makes installation easy.

Dimensions: 3 inches diameter x 36 inches length.  Certified by the National Safety Foundation for reliability and performance.
UV lamp is rated for 9,000 hours which is approximately one year of continuous operation.
