Terminator Iron Filter Resin: What Should You Use?

Hello Darin,

Thank you for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:

How much resin do I need for a terminator iron filter? Is there a certain type to buy for this system?”

As far as how much you need goes, it depends on the size of tank that you have.  What are the dimensions?

Softener and Chlorination 101

Hello William,

Thank you for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:“Will be putting a chlorination system and softener“

Alright, so by that do you mean you are looking for a recommendation on a specific chlorine injection system and a water softener system? Here's what we offer and recommend as far as what goes into a chlorine and softener combination system:

How Much Bleach is Enough To Treat a Storage Tank for Disinfection

Hello Luke,

Thank you for contacting us.  You wrote:

How much bleach should I add to an 8,000 gallon tank if it is a 8.25% solution vs a 5% solution (clorox)?  My water tested positive for coliform bacteria and I want to get rid of it in the storage tank so I can re-test the water.

For shock chlorination we recommend a 50 PPM residual.  Let the water sit for at least 12 hours and re-test the water for chlorine residual.   If the chlorine is less than 10 PPM, then repeat the procedure.

Low-Maintenance Treatment Package for Various Water Problems

Hello Mr. G,

Thank you for your phone call yesterday.  As you had requested, I’ve compiled a list below of systems that could be installed together as a package to treat odor, bacteria, iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, sediment, and organic compounds in a variety of water sources.  The system consists of a low-maintenance, non-electric chlorine pellet feeder which is extremely easy to transport, install and maintain.

Then the water would be sent through a large 80-gallon contact tank to give the chlorinated water time to react, ensuring disinfection and oxidation of minerals like iron and manganese.  Next would come the filtration in the form of a 5-micron sediment backwash system, and finally a backwashing carbon filter, but of which are self-cleaning and don’t require any filter cartridge changing.

Seasonal Problems: Winterizing Calcite Tanks

Hello Mr. H,

Thank you for contacting us.  You wrote:

“Currently use soda ash to raise ph.
If I switch to calcite tank, how do I winterize it. It is a seasonal NH location.”

The most important thing is to drain the tank of water, so it doesn’t freeze over and potentially damage the tank or control valve.  To make this easy to accomplish, we offer an optional upgrade that you could purchase- a tank that is outfitted with a drain fitting on the bottom so that you can quickly open it up to drain it from time to time.

Combat High Iron Levels and Low pH

Hello Fred,

Thank you very much for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:

“Just bought a place with a well and need a filter system. well pumps 10 gpm...3 person house hold part of the year...water has a ph of 6...Iron 1.6 ppm..hardness is 2gpg
thanks in advance.....Fred”

Based on the analysis, the main issues with the water are the high levels of iron as well as the low pH.  Low pH can cause corrosion problems with copper piping, which can lead to leaching of copper into drinking water and onto surfaces, but more importantly can cause leaks on pipes.  Correcting the pH up to neutral 7.0 is also important in removing iron from well water. The iron can also contribute to the discoloration you reported.

Pool Sand Filter for Water Well with Hard Water and Sulfur Smell

Hello Paula,

Thank you for contacting us.  You wrote:

“I know this is a long shot but im gonna ask. Can I use a pool sand filter system on a water well. If so do I need a different type of media do I need. I have sulfide odor and hard water.“

Technically yes, you could install a pool sand filter on a household water supply, but there’s a couple of main issues.  For one, they tend to be too small to handle household water flows, and their capacity is minimal.  The other main issue though is that they’re mainly just meant for taking out sediment or suspended particles.  A pool sand filter wouldn’t really do anything to address a rotten egg odor or hard water.

Precision Chlorination for Iron Bacteria Problem

Hello Dwight,

Thank you for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:

have high iron with iron bacteria in our well for our house water... Need a precision chlorinator to auto treat at depth of well prior to pumping entry of water into plumbing house. chlorination has solved iron bacteria problem.”

Do you have any questions?  How much iron do you have?  Do you have any filtration in place? These are the type of questions that need to be answered before we can provide a personalized system recommendation. However, here's a general recommendation I can give you for iron bacteria problems:

Chlorination for Dangerous Manganese Levels

Hello Peter,

Thank you for contacting us through our website.  You wrote:
“I have a large house in Little Compton, RI (10 bathrooms, 2 dishwashers, two washing machines, indoor lap pool, etc...) that has dangerous levels of Manganese (0.779 mg/L versus state MCL of o.o5 mg/L). Our well flows 20 gallons per minute. We filter out sediments.“

For handling this rather high volume of water like what your large house system demands, we recommend treating your water with chlorine, followed by a pair of 2.5 CF Pro-OX iron filter systems in parallel.
