Our Well Water is Gray and Smells Like Rotten Eggs

We recently drilled a new well.  The water is gray and smells like rotten eggs.  No iron or manganese was detected.  The water is soft according to our well driller.  Any ideas on how I can treat this? I have a 3000 gallon storage tank I tried spraying the water into, but it is still gray and smelly.  We are looking for a whole house water filtration system that can deal with this.

What is the Difference Between a Sears Water Softener and No-Salt Softener?

Hello -  I have an old Sears water softener.  It worked fine for years, but my wife is complaining lately that she tastes salt in the water.   I think the salt tank is not working correctly and we want to replace the softener with a new one.  As I recall our hardness is around 10 grains per gallon.  We are on city water in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Fleck Water Softener and Bacteria in My Well Water

Hi –   I have a question about bacteria and my Fleck water softener.  We are on our own well which was tested and it tested positive for coliform bacteria.  We have a whole house water filtration system that removes chlorine and chemicals as well as our water softener.   We have a reverse osmosis system at our sink.

Whole House Water Filtration Systems and Saltless Water Softeners

Dear sir -  I am planning a new construction, single family home with well water.  High manganese, iron and a sulfur smell.  Severe orange staining in toilets and our well driller said iron bacteria is present.  Strong water pressure from well pump, about 15 gallons-per-minute flow rate available.  I don’t want a salt water softener as my wife has high blood pressure, so I am looking into saltless water softeners.

Well Water Treatment of Iron and Rusty Water

Dear Sir,

Our family uses well water and we are looking for information on whole house water filtration systems.  Our main problems are sediment, red or orange stains and bad tastes in the water.  Rusty water is what we have. The water does not have a strong odor to it except for the iron, and we think it is safe to drink but it makes a mess of the laundry and sinks.

What is the difference between No-Salt Water Softeners and Salt-Free Softeners?

I have a question: what is the difference between “No-Salt Water Softeners” and “Salt-Free Softeners”?  I am looking for an alternative to my old salt water softener for our home.  We have 2 bathrooms, 4 persons.

Well Water Treatment for Blue-Green Stains

“Hello - our water is turning my wife’s hair a greenish color.  We also seem to have green / blue stains in our white sinks. We have a more than large  enough softner, a peroxide system with a stenner 85 pump cranked way down and a carbon upflow tank.  We can also smell a hint of some kind of minerals.  What would you recommend?”
